The Role And Importance Of Ethical Behaviour Philosophy Essay

The Role And Importance Of Ethical Behavior Philosophy Essay Moral conduct as it identifies with the Counseling and Consulting Psychologist involves life and demise. Great moral choices lead to life, dynamic quality and development of the mental practice. Then again, if a clinician keeps on settling on dishonest choices, particularly where the correct decision is apparent and genuinely simple to make, it is practically sure that his training won't proceed for long. The therapist will frequently be confronted with circumstances that require sound moral dynamic capacity. Showing up at the suitable strategy to take when confronting a moral difficulty, be that as it may, can be a genuine test. The American Psychological Association (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct to help the analyst when confronted with such issues. The therapist must guarantee that the force and authority that accompanies the calling are not abused, nor mishandled. It is likewise up to him/her to keep up limits and expert separation. Guaranteeing mor al conduct is the duty of the analyst, in spite of the fact that he won't be distant from everyone else in this endeavor, as clinicians try to spike each other on to moral conduct. Assume that as a clinician during psychotherapy, a customer uncovered that he was intending to murder a lady who had declined his advances. What would it be advisable for you to do? This is obviously a moral difficulty that you would be confronted with. On one hand, you are very much aware that the data a customer supplies in treatment ought to be secret, that is, the data is carefully among specialist and customer, and ought not be unveiled to any other individual. Then again, you likewise realize this individual all around ok to stress that he may really kill the lady being referred to. (Noble, 2001) What to do? Dictionary.com characterizes morals as the guidelines of direct perceived in regard to a specific class of human activities or a specific gathering, culture, and so forth.; henceforth the terms clinical morals, Christian morals and expert morals. Morals range each field of our lives, regardless of whether we are in the helping callings or not, and eventually, we will all face a moral issue. A moral issue is a circumstance wherein there is mental clash about a choice to be made, in light of the fact that complying with one basic may prompt violating another. At the point when one gets occupied with a control, an association, or work, he/she as a rule tries to discover what the boundaries are for working inside the specific gathering what the limits are, what the desires are. At the end of the day, what the moral rules are for playing out the given errand. The American Psychological Association (APA) has built up an Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, additionally alluded to as the Code of Ethics, which fills in as a moral manual for individuals from the helping callings, particularly analysts. The Jamaica Psychological Society in its push to propel brain science as an order and calling (Jamaica Psychological Society, 2007) has embraced this code with a couple of minor adjustments. The APA Code of Ethics for analysts depends on five general standards, from which all the principles are created. The primary standard is usefulness and nonmaleficence. This implies the therapists point is to profit the people with whom they work, while, simultaneously, does no damage to them. The clinician needs to consistently be aware of the customers needs. Fundamentally, their responsibility is to put the customers needs over their own. As per Corey (2005), our expert associations with our customers exist for their advantage (p. 37), thus the Code of Ethics urges the guide to endeavor to know about any conceivable impact that their psychological and physical state may have on his/her capacity to support the customer, and find a way to deal with themselves. The second guideline of the Code of morals is devotion and obligation. Loyalty addresses the way that the therapist tries to build up a confiding in relationship with the customers, regardless of whether the customer is an individual, a gathering or an association. To this end, the instructor is very much aware that the data shared by the customer in treatment is carefully secret. Privacy is vital to building up a trusting and gainful helpful relationship, as per Corey (2005). He notes likewise that it is both a moral and a legitimate issue. No important treatment can happen without the customers trust in the security of their divulgences to their advocates, thus experts are capable to characterize and decide the level of classification that can be guaranteed. The specialist has a moral obligation to talk about with the customer the nature and motivation behind privacy from the get-go in the guiding procedure. The customer ought to likewise be made mindful that the instructor may tal k about specific parts of the relationship with an advisor or partner. The advocate would likewise know that classification must be broken when it becomes clear that the customer may do genuine mischief to either himself or others, and obviously, the customer would be so educated. This is the thing that occurred in the genuine case used to open this paper. The specialist decided to break certainty and illuminate his manager regarding the customers disclosures. The customer was captured. In any case, in the wake of promising to avoid the lady being referred to, he was discharged. After two months, he cut the lady to death. The guardians of the lady sued the advisor and the college where he worked for neglecting to secure their little girl. This was plainly an intricate issue including secrecy. Here, morals and the law were strolling a slender line. Corey (2005) additionally takes note of that there is a lawful necessity to break secrecy in cases including youngster misuse, maltreatment of the older and of ward grown-ups. (p. 41) Devotion additionally addresses the privilege of educated assent, which is likewise a moral and lawful prerequisite, and is an essential piece of the restorative procedure. Giving people vital data with the goal that they can settle on educated decisions can prompt more prominent collaboration with respect to the customer. Since the advisor sets aside the effort to instruct the customer about his/her privileges and obligations, the customer is enabled while a believing relationship is being assembled. Corey (2005) recognizes a few angles remembered for the procedure of educated assent as the general objectives of advising; the duties of the instructor toward the customer; the obligations of the customer; constraints and desires to secrecy; lawful and moral boundaries that could characterize the relationship, the capabilities and foundation of the specialist; the charges in question; the administrations the customer can expect; and the estimated length of the remedial procedure (p. 40). The analyst is dependable, not just for oneself as an expert, yet in addition for partners. In that capacity, clinicians are worried about their associates consistence with moral guidelines also. The rehearsing therapist is aware of his/her expert duty to the association and network wherein he/she works, and acknowledges obligation regarding conduct. Standard number three of the Code of Ethics stresses uprightness. The code urges the therapist to do everything in his/her capacity to advance precision, genuineness, and honesty in the science, educating, and practice of brain research (APA, 2010). The clinician ought not endeavor to cheat, swindle or be untrustworthy in any capacity, particularly if such conduct may prompt the customer being hurt. The fourth rule on which the Code of Ethics is based is that of equity. As it were, decency is the situation. Kitchener (1984) calls attention to that the proper importance of equity is rewarding equivalents similarly and unequals inconsistent however with respect to their applicable contrasts (p.49). This implies on the off chance that somebody is dealt with contrastingly by the therapist, it is on the grounds that there is an unmistakable and fitting explanation behind that treatment. For instance, if a customer is resolved to be not able to settle on specific choices as it identifies with their treatment in light of some psychological test, at that point the analyst would treat this customer fairly uniquely in contrast to how somebody who is completely ready to settle on such choices is dealt with. Notwithstanding rewarding customers reasonably, the analyst is likewise aware of the way that everybody is qualified for access and advantage from brain science and its commitments o the general public. As indicated by the code of morals, therapists additionally guarantee that they are similarly as it identifies with their own impediments of mastery and their ability. They are not to depict themselves, or permit themselves to be depicted as a master in zones that they are definitely not. The clinician should likewise be non-exploitative. There are numerous ways that a customer might be misused, yet I think specifically now of sexual offense. Morals codes don't support this movement in any structure. There are numerous purposes behind this, including the way that if the specialist gives up to sexual fascination with the customer, he/she is making the requirements of the customer auxiliary to their own; the advisor who takes part in such a relationship can not, at this point stay objective in making helpful decisions about the customer; and a few customers probably won't have the option to settle on steady choices about shaping personal connections (Baron, 2001). The last guideline supporting the Code of Ethics is regard for people groups rights and pride. This underscores the equity guideline and perceives the humanness of every individual paying little heed to sexual orientation, race, societal position and such other distinctive variables. The analyst is mindful so as not to permit individual inclinations to disable his treatment as it identifies with such people. The clinician is likewise dependable to know about, and regard social, individual and job contrasts, and treat people in like manner, where re

He dropped to his knees. â€Å"Christopher, gee golly, Christopher.† There was blood all over. Matt frantical y felt at Christopher's chest, attempting to make sense of where he could put strain to attempt to stop the dying. All over the place, all over the place, it's originating from all over the place. New blood ran in thick dark red streams against the more splendid red of the pullover's material. â€Å"Christopher, man, hang tight, it will be alright. You'l be okay,† Matt stated, and pul ed out his telephone to dial 911. His own hands were secured with blood now, and the telephone was a foul chaos as he held it to his ear. â€Å"Please,† he stated, his voice shaking, â€Å"I'm at Dalcrest Col ege, close to the business building. My flat mate, somebody assaulted my flat mate. He's draining a ton. He's not conscious.† The 911 administrator began to pose him a few inquiries and Matt attempted to center. Out of nowhere Christopher opened his eyes, taking a profound swallow of air. â€Å"Christopher,† Matt stated, dropping his telephone. â€Å"Chris, they're sending an emergency vehicle, hold on.† The shaking deteriorated, Christopher's arms and legs vibrating in a fast mood. His eyes chose Matt's face, and his mouth opened. â€Å"Chris,† Matt stated, attempting to hold him down, attempting to be delicate, â€Å"who did this? How to Create the Perfect GTD Workflow with MeisterTask

How to Create the Perfect GTD Workflow GTD is a productivity technique developed by David Allen and described in his book Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity. It’s a methodology that encourages people to get all of their to-dos on a central list and process those to-dos weekly in order to stay on top of outstanding tasks and accomplish more. To succeed with GTD, it’s important to use the right tool for collecting and organizing your to-do list, and while we’ll admit we’re a little biased, we think MeisterTask is the perfect tool. In this post, we’ll walk you through how to use MeisterTask for GTD by showing you both a simple approach for GTD beginners and a more advanced approach for GTD masters who want to take advantage of some of MeisterTask’s automations. Simple GTD GTD is an incredibly scalable system that can be as simple as you want it to be or as complex as you need it to be. But if you’re just getting started with the technique, it’s probably best to keep things relatively simple and get the hang of collecting and processing your to-dos before introducing increasing levels of complexity. With that in mind, here’s how you can take a simple approach to GTD using MeisterTask. Create an effective GTD workflow Step 1: Create a GTD project in MeisterTask The first step you need to take is creating a GTD project in MeisterTask. Sign up for a free MeisterTask account or sign in to your account if you already have one. Then, click the plus sign next to “Projects” to create a new GTD project. Give your project a name and, if needed, adjust your sharing settings, then click “Create Project.” Step 2: Set up your capture lane One of the core tenants of GTD is that you have to collect all of your outstanding to-dos in a central system. That means getting all of your to-dos out of your head, your email inbox, your phone, etc. and getting them onto a single list. If you’re using MeisterTask for GTD, you can set up the first lane on your board as your capture list. Click on the text that currently says “Open” and give the lane a new nameâ€"something like “Inbox,” “Capture,” or “To Process.” This is the lane where all of your unprocessed to-dos will live. There are a number of different ways to get your to-dos into this MeisterTask lane. Add new to-dos manually If you’re transcribing your to-dos from a handwritten list or just doing a brain dump of the outstanding tasks in your head, you can add a new to-do manually by clicking the plus icon in your capture lane. Give your task a title, then repeat the process until you’ve added tasks for all of your to-dos. Email to-dos to your MeisterTask lane If you have to-do items in your email inbox, you can forward them to a specific email address to add those tasks to your capture lane. Click the down arrow in the right corner of your lane, then select “Automations.” You’ll see an email address at the bottom that you can forward emails to in order to get them to appear as tasks in your capture lane. Copy that email address and add it to your address book so you can start forwarding any existing and new to-dos to MeisterTask to get everything into your capture lane. Gmail users can also use MeisterTask’s Gmail add-on to add tasks to MeisterTask without forwarding emails or leaving the Gmail interface. The same goes for users of Outlook or Spark. Add to-dos from other tools To add to-dos to your MeisterTask collect lane from other applications, you can use one of our Zapier integrations. This allows you to do things like: Create MeisterTask tasks from Evernote notes. Create MeisterTask tasks from Google Calendar events. Add Google Sheets rows to MeisterTask as tasks. Create tasks in MeisterTask from Slack messages. Zapier lets you connect MeisterTask to more than 1,500 other apps, so you can use its automations to make sure your to-dos in any app are added to your collect lane. And if you’re an IFTTT user instead, you can also use our IFTTT integration to build custom workflows for adding your to-dos to your capture lane. Migrate tasks from Trello or Asana If you’ve been using Trello or Asana and want to switch to MeisterTask, you can import your Trello boards or Asana projects with just a few clicks to save yourself the time of manually copying and pasting all of your to-dos between the two tools. Step 3: Create your processing lanes Once you have all of your outstanding tasks in your capture lane, it’s time to make some decisions about how you’ll organize and process your to-dos. GTD recommends a variety of lists you may want to consider adding, but for a simple approach, we recommend the following: Next Actions: Tasks you need to complete Projects: To-dos that represent larger bodies of work and multiple tasks Tickler: Things you need to do in the future but cannot begin on yet Someday: Things you’d like to do one of these days but aren’t priorities Done: Tasks you’ve completed You can edit any existing lanes on your GTD board to give them the appropriate titles by clicking on the text of the current lane name, and you can add new lanes by clicking “+ Add Section.” You can also change the background color of any lane header by clicking the down arrow in the right corner of the header and selecting a different background color. Finally, once you’ve created all of your lanes, you can simply click on the icon in any lane’s header and drag and drop it to the appropriate spot to order your lanes as desired. Step 4: Start processing your to-dos Once you have all of your lanes set up, you’re ready to start processing your to-dos as part of your weekly review. Go through each item in your capture lane and drag them to the appropriate lanes: If a task will take you less than two minutes to complete, just go ahead and do it, then drag it into your “Done” lane. If a task will take you more than two minutes to complete, drag it into whichever lane is appropriate: Next Actions, Tickler, or Someday. If a task is very large and needs to be broken down into multiple subtasks, drag it into the “Projects” lane. When you’re finished, your capture lane should be empty. All of your tasks should be in the other lanes on your board. During your weekly review, you can also start breaking down your projects using MeisterTask’s checklist feature. Click on a project task to open it, then select “Add Checklist Item.” Enter the tasks you’ll need to complete as part of that project. When you’re ready, you can turn these checklist items into their own tasks. For time-sensitive items in your “Next Actions” and “Tickler” lanes, you can add due dates to your tasks to make sure nothing gets overlooked. Just click on a task to open it, click “Due Date,” and select a due date. You can also filter your board to only show items that are due today, tomorrow, within a week, within two weeks, within a month, or in the past. To filter your board, toggle the switch in the right navigation menu to open it, click the filter icon, click the dropdown next to “Due date” and select the desired timeframe. If you select “Due today,” for example, your board will update to only show tasks with due dates set for today. Finally, you can also prioritize any of the items in your list by dragging and dropping your task cards into the order you plan to/need to complete them. Step 5: Start getting things done Now that you have your project set up, your lanes created, and your tasks consolidated and organized, you can start getting things done. Just work from your “Next Actions” lane, review the tasks in that lane daily, capture your to-dos as they come in, and process your capture lane once a week. Advanced GTD If you’ve gotten the hang of the basic GTD process and are ready to take things a step further, MeisterTask can help with that, too. For example, in David Allen’s “Engage” step of the GTD workflow, he recommends further organizing your tasks by context (i.e. work vs. home), time available (how long will it take), energy available (how much energy do you need to complete the task), and priority (how important is it to complete the task). Assigning categories to tasks not only helps you keep your tasks organizedâ€"i.e. you can have separate lists for work to-dos and personal to-dosâ€"but it also helps you make better decisions when you need to choose what to work on next. For example, you can choose tasks you categorized as low-energy when you’re feeling tired or tasks you decided would only take a few minutes when you’re strapped for time. And since you made these decisions while you were processing your tasks, you don’t have to think through all of those details in the decision-making moment. If you want to engage in more advanced GTD , you’ll need to create another project. Here’s how to do it. Step 1: Create a new capture and categorize project This new project will serve as both the place you capture your to-dos and the place where you add context to those to-dos. Start by creating a new project in MeisterTask. Name your project something like “GTD Inbox.” Once your project is created, add the lanes you need to add context to your tasks. For example: You may want a lane for “Home” and a lane for “Work” to categorize the things you need to do by where you need to do them. You may want lanes for timeframes like “30 Minutes,” One Hour,” “Two Hours,” “Four hours,” and “One Day” to categorize tasks by how long you think they’ll take to complete. You may want lanes for “High Energy,” “Medium Energy,” and “Low Energy” to categorize tasks by how much energy they’ll take to complete. You may want lanes for “High Priority,” “Medium Priority,” and “Low Priority” to categorize tasks by their importance. Add lanes for any of the categories you want to use to the left of your capture lane in MeisterTask. Step 2: Create tags for each of your categories Now, we want to create tags for each of our categories. This will let us see each task’s categories at a glance. Open any one of your tasks by clicking on it, click “Tags,” and select “Manage.” Click “Add Tag,” then type the name of your first category. Repeat this process until you have one tag for each of your categories. You can also change the color of your tags if you want by clicking any tag and selecting a color. Step 3: Create automations to automatically apply tags to tasks Next, we want to set up automations that tag cards with their categories as we put them into the right lanes. Start with your first category lane. Click the down arrow in the lane’s header and select “Automations” “Add Automation.” On the automation selection screen, select “Update Tags.” On the “Add Automation” screen, select the “Add these Tags” radio button, select the appropriate tag for the category, check the box next to “Run this action on all existing tasks in this section,” and click “Done.” Repeat these steps for each of your categories. When you’re finished, dropping any card into a category lane will automatically add that category’s tag to that task. This lets you move cards into each category group (context, time available, energy available, and priority) to add the tags you’ll need later to make decisions about which tasks to pick up. Step 4: Create an automation to move your cards to your main GTD board Since this board is just for capturing tasks and categorizing them, we need a way to get our captured and categorized tasks onto our main GTD board. We can do that automatically by creating a final “Move” lane on our GTD Capture board and creating another automation. Once you’ve created your “Move” lane, click the down arrow in the lane’s header and select “Automations” “Add Automation.” Select “Move Task.” Click the dropdown under “Move to” and select your main GTD project. Select your capture list’s name under “Sections.” Finally, check the box next to “Run this action on all existing tasks in this section,” then click “Done.” Now, when you’re finished categorizing your tasks, you can drop your tasks into the “Move” lane to automatically send them to your main GTD project’s capture lane. Step 5: Start categorizing your tasks When you do your weekly review, start with your capture and categorize board. Drag each task into the appropriate lane to add its tag. When you’re finished, drag the task into the “Move” lane to automatically send it to your main GTD board. After that, you can use your main GTD board to make decisions about how to organize and complete your tasks. And you can even filter your board to show only tasks tagged with certain categories (e.g. only work tasks or only tasks that will take less than 30 minutes to complete) to make decisions more quickly. Other Ways MeisterTask Helps With GTD In addition to the workflow recommendations we’ve shared, there are a lot of other features in MeisterTask that you can use to GTD better: Need to delegate some of your tasks? You can add employees, coworkers, or even a spouse to your MeisterTask project to delegate tasks easily. Need to track the time you spend on tasks? Enable time tracking for your project to keep your tasks and your time records in the same tool. Need to see your task list while on the go? Download our Android or iOS apps to quickly access your tasks from anywhere in the world, even when you’re not connected to the internet. If you use MeisterTask with GTD and have a tip we didn’t cover in this post, we’d love to hear more about it in the comments below! Create an effective GTD workflow

Thank You, Mrs. Texley!

When I was a junior in high school, I enrolled in my first English class with Mrs. Texley. She taught honors English to eleventh and twelfth graders in my small-town Kansas high school. Until that point in time, I had not found English to be a particularly exciting subject. It felt dry, boring, and lifeless. That all changed with Mrs. Texley. Her enthusiasm and encouragement opened my eyes to new authors, new ways of writing, and new approaches to studying. Through her encouragement I read novels I previously would have never known about or considered. It was through Mrs. Texley’s suggestions that I entered the mysterious world of the unnamed protagonist in Daphne du Maurier’s classic novel, Rebecca. I studied the broad collection of Greek and Roman mythology with Edith Hamilton’s Mythology, and I encountered a great white whale named Moby Dick. These novels and many, many others opened up my mind, and I grew to love literature and writing so much so that I event ually graduated with a degree in English. That is the power of an excellent teacher. A competent and engaging teacher opens up doors for her students that they previously thought were shut or didn’t even know existed. A teacher empowers her students and shows them that they can achieve more than they ever imagined. She provides the map. She charts the course. She leads her students to discover more about who they are. She is a vision-caster. Most of us can recall at least one teacher who was especially encouraging. I am fortunate in that I can recall several throughout my years as a student. As I reflect back on what made them shine above their peers, I have come up with a few common themes. An excellent teacher is an excellent communicator. She can speak to her students in a way that they understand. But not only that, she can listen, too. And when she teaches, her body language reflects that she is happy to be with her students. An excellent teacher shows enthusiasm for her subject. A teacher who shows that she is still excited and interested in her subject, whether it be English, math, science, or something else, shows her students that the subject is worth learning. An excellent teacher is funny. A teacher who is funny keeps her students’ attention and injects interest and fun into her subject. She also establishes rapport between herself and her class. (For more on the benefits of humor in teaching, check out Podcasts 137 and 138.) An excellent teacher knows her subject well. By knowing her subject well, she is freed from trying to master it. Instead she enthusiastically and naturally shares it with her students. She is able to take her time and focus her energies on her students so that she is able to adjust her teaching methods to her class’ unique needs. An excellent teacher genuinely enjoys her students and isn’t afraid to smile. By smiling and speaking with her students individually, she shows that she is happy to have them in her class. Her welcoming presence puts students at ease so that they can focus on learning. begins National Teacher Appreciation Week in the United States. It’s a time for us to share our appreciation for the teachers in our lives. Whether in homeschools, private schools, or public schools, there is a teacher who has gone above and beyond to instill a love of learning in her students. For me, Mrs.Texley made all the difference. She was the one who taught me to love English and who put me on a path to getting my degree in English. She is a big part of the reason I am the person I am today. It is now my privilege and pleasure to pay it forward with my own students. And as I do, I remember her and try to honor her by teaching my class with her same enthusiasm and joy. Thank you, Mrs. Texley!    Jennifer Mauser  has always loved reading and writing and received a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas in 1991. Once she and her husband had children, they decided to homeschool, and she put all her training to use in the home. In addition to homeschooling her children, Jennifer teaches IEW classes out of her home, coaches budding writers via  email,  and tutors students who struggle with dyslexia.

The Business Opportunity As far as UKà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trading industry is concerned, domestic investment and overseas trade are vital for its prosperity. This is the reason that the government, through its trade and investment policies, seeks to help UK businesses in succeeding overseas and also encourage international companies to work with UK-based businesses. In order to create new markets and trading opportunities, thereby keeping the trade market alive and working, the government is also working to remove trade barriers. This will also enable equal acce ss to markets for both the suppliers and consumers. In this way à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" ensuring market access on fair terms and keeping markets active and open à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å" makes it possible for the rules-based international trading system to thrive effectively. Trade partnerships with countries outside EU can pose challenges in the form of long distances and communication problems arising due to the difference of languages and business environment. Nevertheless, it can also bring with it a wide array of valuable business opportunities. The UK has a vast network of trade relations with non-EU countries, and is ever-interested in to do business in open markets that comply with the World Trade Organisationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s (WTO) rules. Therefore, it seeks to resolve issues of trade barriers through its own efforts as well as EUà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s help. As far as open markers are concerned, it takes EUà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s help in negotiating commitments that are legally approv ed by the WTO or seeks to contract bilateral trade agreements. Aiding material as well as practical support is available to help a budding company find business opportunities, trade missions, market information, financial support, as well as advice on custom duties, tax, and trade (international) paperwork. The guide given below presents a summary of the support and opportunities a business can take due advantage of when trading in international markets of the Commonwealth, American and the Asian and Pacific regions. Trade Opportunities Key Sectors UK Trade Investment has distinguished several number of export opportunities that UK businesses can engage with in the following sectors: Food and Drink Education Electronic Healthcare Systems Renewable Energy Biotechnology Security UK Trade Relations with the Commonwealth The Commonwealth refers to a diverse group that includes 53 countries, comprising of developed, developing and the least developed countries (LDCs). It includes both large countries, such as India, as well as small island nations. Markets of these countries offer a plethora of trade opportunities for UK in almost all sectors, including, agriculture and Information Technology. In the case of developing countries and LDCs, you can bid for contracts that are funded by aid agencies. For Commonwealth countries, you can do business through subcontracting to larger businesses that are already involved in trading with these countries. The UK as well as EU has close relations with the Commonwealth. Both the UK and the Commonwealth approve of the benefits that come with reducing trade barriers, however, the Commonwealth also works to ensure that the developing countries are not unfairly made to face competition from larger, developed and rich er countries. The Commonwealth privileges its member countries, including UK, through preferential trade access. Commonwealth countries also constitute many regional trading groups named as follows: Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries (having a trade and aid agreement with theEU) the North American Free Trade Agreement the Association of South East Asian Nations the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas the African Union the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation Trade agreements also exist between most of these organizations, EU and the UK. You can easily procure information with regards to developments in trade policy from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). For country profiles, business opportunities, trade missions and exhibitions, you can get in touch with UK Trade Investment (UKTI). Also, UKTI offers support and assistance to small businesses. UK Trade Relations with the US For UK businesses, the US is the main overseas investment market as well as export market. The US market is quite diverse because the country has many states and regions and it also constitutes a free trade area with Mexico and Canada. The USà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s business culture and several other practical facets of living and working are different from those of UK. Therefore, it would be easier and more cost-effective to work with those UK businesses that are already involved in trading with the US or US businesses that are already established in the UK. A notable change in USà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trade policy has recently taken place, according to which climate changes need to be prioritized. This has created new business opportunities with respect to environmental systems and products. The UK and US also share bilateral trade relations and in 2007, theEUand US created the TransAtlantic Economic Council (TEC), that comprised of business forums, while legislators and consumers used this platform to promote open trade. UK Trade Relations with Canada After the US, the UK is categorized as Canadaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s second biggest trading partner in the world. The government signs contracts bilaterally, as well as through the Commonwealth and theEU. Trading with Canada brings several advantages with it; thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no language difference, the business culture is familiar and the number of UK businesses established in Canada is considerably high. Also, in the exporting arena, UK products have the advantage of preferential tariffs, granted to them by the Commonwealth agreements. This gives UK businesses advantage over businesses of otherEUcountries. Canada and theEUare also currently involved in negotiating an agreement with regards to an economic partnership. The strongest sectors of UK-Canada trade are technology, science and clinical research. Opportunities also exist in the sectors of oil and chemicals, media services and engineering. You could benefit from the additional opportunities offered by the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2012 Olympic Games in London. UK Trade Relations with the North America Free Trade Agreement Area There exist manifold trade opportunities for UK businesses in the markets of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which include US, Mexico and Canada. The UK has bilateral trade relations with these three countries, both on an individual basis as well as through EU. There are already many UK business trading and investing with the NAFTA countries. It would be preferable, both in terms of convenience and economic feasibility, for you to start trade in collaboration with these businesses. Also, the NAFTA countries, in an attempt to combat climate change, offer business opportunities in the environmental market as well. It is necessary for you to acquaint yourself with NAFTA rules if you wish to trade within this region. NAFTAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s regional market is quite intricate and integrated. Also, much of the manufacturing market has been shifted to Mexico sinceNAFTAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s inception in 1994. Resultantly, Mexico has seen rising prosperity and developme nt of its consumer market. One third ofthe NAFTAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trade is concentrated in the sectors of energy, automotive and agriculture. These sectors and the resulting trade, however, have been adversely affected because of the current economic crisis. Also, NAFTAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trade benefits have been unevenly spread among the three countries, all of which want to revise certain parts of the agreement. These three countries also involved in bilateral free trade with other countries. For example, Mexico and EU have a free trade agreement, while negotiations between Canada and EU are still in process. The US and the EU also have a free trade agreement. UK Trade Relations with the Free Trade Area of the Americas The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) comprises a total of 34 member countries. This means that there is a vast range of different economies involved, which would create numerous business opportunities for UK companies. There are also several industries in these countries, also imposing several national laws on businesses. Themember countries of FTAA, including some Caribbean islands and all of the Americas, are working to create a free trade area, which includes the North American Free Trade Agreement as well. The working groups ofFTAAare currently working on the following nine trade issues: Services Agriculture Market access Government procurement Dispute settlement Investment Intellectual property Subsidies, countervailing and anti-dumping duties Competition policy Special committees have also been created to take care of: Participation of civil society Smaller economies Institutional issues E-commerce TheFTAAkeeps its Hemispheric Customs and Tariff Database for market access updated. In addition to delivering country information and contacts to national governments, the FTAA also works with regional development banks, for example, the Inter-American Development Bank. The UK and FTAA countries have bilateral relations. The UK also becomes a part of EUà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s bilateral relations with these individual countries and also its negotiations on a region-to-region basis so that a trade co-operation agreement could be developed with theFTAA. UK Trade Relations with Asia and Pacific The UK and individual Asian and Pacific countries have a bilateral trade relationship. These countries present a variety of business opportunities, including basic and high-tech industry and services. Aid-funded trade also exists between these countries and the UK. The Asian and Pacific countries comprise of small islands and LDCs, including Bangladesh, and also major economies like China, Japan and India. Smaller but sophisticated economies like Australia, Taiwan, Malaysia and South Korea also exist in this region. Recently, bilateral government discussions were held between the UK andTaiwan, China, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Korea. The UK, through the Commonwealth and the EU, also indulges in regular trade contacts with countries of the Asian and Pacific region. EU has region-to-region as well bilateral agreements with several Asian and Pacific countries. The most strengthened of these is with members (the Pacific island) of the Cotonou Agreement on Trade and A id. There are dialogues going on in this respect with China and Japan as well. Also, free trade agreements are currently being negotiated with the Association of South East Nations (ASEAN), Korea, and India. Aid and trade agreements are also being made with the Central Asian countries of the Caucasus. Through the EU, the UK also takes part in region-to-region co-operation in trade and consistent contacts with the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC), ASEAN, and the Asia-Europe Meeting.

Summary of Iliad Book XVI the Death of Patroclus

This is a crucial book and a turning point because in it Zeus sits idly by knowing his son Sarpedon will be killed, and Achilles friend Patroclus is also killed. Zeus knows that the death of Patroclus will force Achilles to fight for the Greeks (Achaeans/Danaans/Argives). This will allow Zeus to fulfill his promise to Achilles mother, Thetis, to give glory to Achilles. While the fighting goes on around the ship of Protesilaus, Patroclus goes crying to Achilles. He says he is crying for the wounded Greeks, including Diomedes, Odysseus, Agamemnon, and Eurypylus. He prays that he may never be so cruel as Achilles. He asks that Achilles at least let him go to fight with the Myrmidons wearing Achilles armor so that the Trojans might mistake him for Achilles and strike fear into the Trojans and give the Greeks a respite. Achilles again explains his grudge against Agamemnon and his determination to keep his promise to rejoin the battle when it reached his own (50) ships, but now that the fight is so near, he will let Patroclus wear his armor to scare the Trojans and win honor for Achilles, and get Briseis and other gifts for Achilles. He asks Patroclus to drive the Trojans from the ships but no more or he will rob Achilles of his glory and will risk having one of the gods attack Patroclus. Ajax is holding his ground despite incredible odds, but it is finally too much for him. Hector comes upon Ajax and severs the point of his spear, thereby letting Ajax know the gods are with Hector, and it is time for him to retreat. This gives the Trojans the opportunity they need to throw fire at the ship. Achilles sees the burning and tells Patroclus to put on his armor while he gathers the Myrmidons. Achilles tells the men that now is the chance to let loose their pent-up rage against the Trojans. Leading them are Patroclus and Automedon. Achilles then uses a special cup to make an offering to Zeus. He asks Zeus to grant victory to Patroclus and let him return unharmed with his comrades. Zeus grants the part that makes Patroclus succeed in his mission of driving back the Trojans, but not the rest. Patroclus exhorts his followers to fight well to bring glory to Achilles so that Agamemnon will learn the error of not respecting the bravest of the Greeks. The Trojans assume that Achilles is leading the men and is now reconciled with Agamemnon, and since Achilles is fighting again, they are afraid. Patroclus kills the leader of the Paeonian (Trojan ally) horsemen, Pyraechmes, causing his followers to panic. He drives them from the ship and puts out the fire. While the Trojans fall back, the Greeks pour out of the ships in pursuit. It is not a rout since the Trojans continue to fight. Patroclus, Menelaus, Thrasymedes and Antilochus, and Ajax son of Oileus, and other chieftains kill Trojans. Ajax continues to try to assault Hector with a spear, which Hector dodges with his ox-hide shield. Then the Trojans fly and Patroclus pursues them. He cuts off the escape route of battalions near him and drives them back to the ships where he kills many. Sarpedon rebukes his Lycian troops into fighting the Greeks. Patroclus and Sarpedon rush at each other. Zeus looks on and says he would like to rescue Sarpedon. Hera says Sarpedon is fated to be killed by Patroclus and if Zeus steps in, the other gods will do likewise to save their favorites. Hera suggests instead that Zeus sweep him (once he is dead) from the field to Lycia for proper burial. Patroclus kills Sarpedons squire; Sarpedon aims at Patroclus, but his spear kills one of the Greeks horses. Two other horses of the chariot go wild until they are entangled in the reins, so Automedon cuts the dead horse away, so the chariot is once again fit for battle. Sarpedon throws another spear that misses Patroclus and Patroclus throws a return missile which kills Sarpedon. The Myrmidons gather Sarpedons horses. The remaining leader of the Lycians, Glaucus, prays to Apollo to heal the wound in his hand so he can fight along with the Lycians. Apollo does as asked so that the Lycians can go to fight for the body of Sarpedon. Glaucus tells Hector that Sarpedon has been killed and that Ares has done it using the spear of Patroclus. He asks Hector to help prevent the Myrmidons from stripping Sarpedons armor. Hector leads the Trojans to the body of Sarpedon and Patroclus cheers on the Greeks to strip and dishonor the body. The Trojans kill one of the Myrmidons, which enrages Patroclus. He kills Sthenelaus the son of Ithaemenes and the Trojans retreat, but then Glaucus recovers and kills the richest Myrmidon. Meriones kills a Trojan, priest of Zeus of Mt. Ida. Aeneas misses Meriones. The two taunt each other. Patroclus tells Meriones to fight and shut up. Zeus decided the Greeks should get the body of Sarpedon, so he makes Hector fearful, recognizing the gods have turned against him, so he flees on his chariot with the Trojans following. The Greeks strip the armor from Sarpedon. Then Zeus tells Apollo to take Sarpedon away, anoint him and give him to Death and Hypnos to take him back to Lycia for proper burial. Apollo obeys. Patroclus pursues the Trojans and Lycians instead of obeying Achilles. Patroclus kills Adrestus, Autonous, Echeclus, Perimus, Epistor, Melanippus, Elasus, Mulius, and Pylartes. Apollo now helps the Trojans, keeping Patroclus from breaking the walls of Troy. Apollo tells Patroclus it is not his lot to sack Troy. Patroclus draws back to avoid angering Apollo. Hector is inside the Scaean gates when Apollo, in the guise of a warrior named Asius, asks him why he has stopped fighting. He tells him to drive towards Patroclus. Hector ignores the other Greeks and goes straight to Patroclus. When Patroclus throws a stone, it hits Hectors charioteer Cebriones. Patroclus springs on the dead driver and Hector fights with him over the corpse. The other Greeks and Trojans fight, equally matched till nightfall when the Greeks grow strong enough to pull out the body of Cebriones. Patroclus kills 27 men, and then Apollo strikes him so that he grows dizzy, knocks the helmet from his head, breaks his spear, and makes his shield fall off. Euphorbus, son of Panthous, strikes Patroclus with a spear but does not kill him. Patroclus draws back within his men. Hector sees this move, advances, and putting a spear through Patroclus belly, kills him. Patroclus dying says to Hector that Zeus and Apollo have made Hector the victor, although he shares the mortal share of death with Euphorbus. Patroclus adds that Achilles will soon kill Hector. Cultural Audit - Nike - 3149 Words

Nike’s Cultural Audit Today a shoe is more than something to protect and keep one’s feet warm, it is a fashion statement, an athletic enhancer, rebellion, status, and the ins and outs of coolness. Shoes, mainly athletic shoes have changed drastically throughout the years. From weight, size, look, and comfort ability, Nike has been the leading footwear company to develop and lead such a growing industry. Peter Hitchcock, the author of Oscillate Wildly, wrote, â€Å"The shoe is magical, within both the history of the commodity and the psychological compulsions of modern â€Å"man.† The shoe is the emblem of fetishism that links the commodity to desire. And the most magical shoe of all is the athletic shoe because it is simultaneously a†¦show more content†¦By the end of 1980 Nike completed its IPO and became a publicly traded company. During the mid-1980s, Nike lost its position as the industry leader, mainly in part because the â€Å"company had badly miscalculated on the aerobics boom† (About NIKE Inc.). In 1985 the debut of a new signature shoe for an NBA rookie, Michael Jordan, helped rocket Nike’s sales and publicity. In 1988 Nike created the tag line â€Å"Just do it.† Nike regained its position as the industry leader in 1989, making them the first and only company in the athletic footwear/apparel industry to ever accomplish this feat (About NIKE Inc.). In 1990 Nike declared Portland, Oreg on as its headquarters. Portland became home to the first â€Å"retail-as-theatre† experience called Niketown. 1994 brought the signing of several individual players from the future World Cup winning Brazilian National Team. The following year Nike signed the entire team and began to design the team’s uniform. Along with signing the Brazilian team, Nike also signed the men’s and women’s US soccer teams, as well as other teams around the world. In 1996 Nike Golf signed an upcoming young golfer by the name of Eldrick â€Å"Tiger† Woods. At first competitors criticized and laughed at Nike for signing such a young player, that all changed in 1997 when Tiger won the Masters by a record of twelve strokes. Memory and Brain Activity Essays - 2129 Words

Memory and Brain Activity Memory is the mental process of retaining and retrieving information such as facts, events, and experiences. Memory is not always accurate (Hunt, 2004). Memory errors are common and natural; they are the result of normal cognitive processes of comprehension and perception, which can cause interference about incoming information. There are two errors of remembering; forgetting an event that occurred and remember an event that never occurred or remembering it in a way different from how it occurred. Memories can be distorted, and one may have no awareness that the memory is distorted. This is false memory (Roediger, 2002). This may because the woman has a racial bias to assume a black man is more likely to commit a crime than a white man is, so she may truly believe that she saw the black man commit the crime. Many studies have shown that collaboration causes an interference that produces more memories that are false but in a study but Ross, they concluded that collaboration has reduced the amount of false memories in both older and younger adults. Collaboration may cause more memories that are false because one may rely on others memories and those memories are of their perception of an event (Ross, 2008). A jury uses collaboration of evidence to determine a suspected criminals fate, collaboration may be a good or a bad thing when used in this context because the opinions of others influence ones own opinion and but in a positive note they can provide cues to help. It is possible to convince people that they have witnessed something that has not actually happened. Memories are not stored like still pictures, they are more like sketches that are transformed and added to whenever the memory is retrieved. Participants in a study that were presented false information about an event or scene tend to blend it into their memories, and they recall the false information as a part of the original memory. Physical Privacy Rights in the Workplace Free Essays

Physical Privacy rights in the workplace As soon as you raise your right hand in the Military you lose many rights. Just to name a few; the right to wear your hair long; grow a beard and or a full mustache; the right to attend a political rally; the right to express your first amendment rights, and many others. There are some I agree with and some I don’t; never the less I support the military’s general reasoning. We will write a custom essay sample on Physical Privacy Rights in the Workplace or any similar topic only for you Order Now I support the right to privacy, and the military in most cases try to comply with the privacy of individuals. One is drug testing. We are human and I understand that some folks have weaker will than others. I have witnessed good men and women in the military lose their careers over the use of drugs. I agree with drug testing and everyone in the military should be drug free. There are many factors in my reasoning. There is espionage. Some may do anything for drugs; even give up their Government’s secrets. Safety is another factor; weather they work with weapons or machines the risk level is much higher with someone who is impaired. On another note I believe in the privacy of an individual that tests positive for drugs. The word always seems to get out to others. I agree that we can say to other Soldiers that an individual tested positive and will be dealt with legally, as a deterrent for others. But to have everyone know who the individual was and what drug they tested positive for is just wrong. In the past they use to ask what medications are you currently taking? That is a private matter of the individual. If the Soldier tests positive for a controlled substance that happens to be prescribed medication, all the Soldier needs to do is provide proof. Now they do not ask that question anymore. So they have yielded to the right of privacy in that perspective. They still need to work on the privacy for the ones that come up positive. There are many ongoing issues that spark controversy from time to time. Another is tattoos and body piercing. Now day’s tattoos and body piercing are more common then when I was growing up, especially with today’s youth. For them it’s like a sign of maturity. Even so that the Army and other Armed Forces have relaxed their entrance requirements and allow tattoos on forearms, necks, and legs. However, the Army will still not accept any gang related, or racist tattoos. If a Soldier is caught with any of these tattoos they will be discharged from the military. Body piercing also is prohibited. I see more new Soldiers with tattoos then I ever seen in my career. What does this do to us old timers? It makes us think that the old known â€Å"good order and discipline† is slowly fading. I see young male Soldiers with earring holes in their ears. I even caught a young Soldier wearing an earring on duty. I told him he had five seconds to take it off or else†¦ He complied. I believe that this is today’s norm, but is society slowly slipping too far? How about going to a lawyer’s office and seeing a lawyer with an earring and tattoo on his neck? I’ve seen lawyers with earrings before. But how professional is this? I personally would not like to be represented by someone like that. A judge may discriminate and it may cause someone to lose a case. Other issues are perception. Looking at someone with multiple tattoos may give people a bad first impression on an individual. These young Soldiers will someday leave the Army and look for a job. The tattoos may cause them a job. They can be highly qualified, but they are still subject to discrimination. When I see a young Soldier saying that he or she is going to get a tattoo, I tell them to think about it real well. Think of how it may affect their future.
